Another recommendation/plea for a dog park , with some inspiration photos: it would be fenced in, doesn't have to be too big, can require a fee to use, can require no barking or you have to leave, etc. I have lived in places with great ones and they are an amenity that is good for socializing dogs as well as owners! Especially good to mix people inter-generationally - older people and younger kids and mid-ages. We would post rules, require clean up, etc. Really hope the Village considers it!
DEI leads to antisemitism. Glencoe should end its Community and Inclusion Committee which oversees DEI work.
Our library is amazing! We are so incredibly fortunate to have our librarians and the amazing building itself. The later hours are also a wonderful feature. The library is first rate and one of the many things that makes Glencoe special!
A Public pool in Glencoe, please. So many families would like a pool. While we have the beach, a pool provides many more opportunities, including swimming lessons for children, more community building, etc. Someone wrote that we are too small for a pool, but I do not think that is true. Is there a fear that pool memberships would cannibalize beach memberships or country club memberships? It would be great to have a full discussion about this to understand the pros and cons. Thanks so much!
Please add a racquetball court to the Takiff Center
Absolutely massive opportunity to complete redo the bike lanes along Sheridan road. Terribly designed bike lanes cause accidents, as we saw over the summer. We need to make the experience gor bikers safer and better. Widen and build protected bike lanes on Sheridan road.
Breweries, condos, more cohesive downtown. Multi storied parking garage, diversified restaurants, develop path by train station like other towns boardwalks, move works and develop the land,
The proliferation of developer-built, generic white farmhouses is harming the aesthetic of our neighborhoods--removing organic variation in architectural styles and replacing it with the feel of a planned development. Is there a mechanism to include architectural style in the review of developer-led housing projects?
Can we have a weekly or monthly hour or 2 for dogs to be allowed at the beach? 1 hour per year is not enough. Thank you
could we start a Glencoe tv show next week every day from 7:00am Intel 9:30PM after each episode do nick Jr face promo
Do a Glencoe tv show That’s on every day from 7:00am intell 9:30pm with the nick jr face promos after each episode
Glencoe's "Dancing Under the Stars" behind the commuter lots park. Designated evenings with alternating music genres like swing, disco, country dancing. It's great for one's physical/mental health, for community engagement and it's fun!
I would like to see a parking lot especially for the employees of Glencoe, and specifically for the customers that flock here from neighboring towns to support the Glencoe businesses. It’s deterred them from supporting our businesses on a regular basis because of the lack of sufficient parking lots . It’s not good during the winter for the elderly to walk and potentially fall during poor weather conditions. It’s hard for Moms with kids to find good parking. Please find a solution.
My parents recently downsized in Glencoe and built a smaller house on a small lot; the Village could not have been better to work with to help guide them through the building process as they did not use one of the traditional area builders and needed help navigating the building rules. Thank you for your support for them, Village!
I see and appreciate the comments re: multi unit housing. But I also have concerns with adding more multi story buildings to our town, especially when there are already options so close (we have a relative at the brand new senior center The Lodge in Northbrook - the first street over the highway from Glencoe - it's a 2 minute drive), and seeing how difficult it is to update/maintain some of the current condo buildings.
I'm grateful to live in a community that provides a venue for volunteers and residents to provide feedback to the Village on issues like sustainability and inclusion & diversity.
Use some of the ample green space for community garden plots that residents can rent for a reasonable price. Many other communities along the North Shore provide this amenity.
I echo the other comments about the need for housing diversity. There are other demographics aside from nuclear families that would enjoy living in Glencoe. Apartments, condos, duplexes, senior housing, etc would all be beneficial. And most importantly, these options need to be affordable.
Dog park! Dog park! Maybe with this cool new restaurant we will have at the golf club we can cut out a small area for dogs?!?
Reparations!! We need to fully reconcile with our past wrong doings as a community. We have a rich history that should show our character by making things right.
Affordable housing for seniors is a must. People should not have to leave the community.
We need a large lovely USED bookstore the success of North Shore Exchange tells us there is a market. Call it Cracked Spine Books. Having it be an off shoot of our library would be excellent as the funds would be well used!!
We need more stop signs along Vernon (particularly near South School and the Vernon playground). Additionally need a stop sign at Madison/Randolph where the South School car line crosses the intersection.
I agree with the other comments about expanding affordable housing options (less single family home zoning). We need more diversity (of all types) here.
Work with providers to get fiber to home internet in Glencoe. Max upload speeds of 20mps is not good enough these days.
Bar/restaurant at the beach where the cafe used to be
I echo the adult rec leagues. These have largely disappeared from the surrounding suburbs and could ve a way to bring people in for a 16” softball, basketball, pickleball, etc league. Then everyone can go out to a local restaurant after…especially if something ever goes in where poppys was
For the parking complaints…people without a disability should be fine to walk the 1 block in downtown. However, theres something about reserving parking for individual businesses that feels wrong - how about changing them to 15min parking spots?
I am so grateful for our wonderful library, the research and programs by our historical society, the beautiful Green Bay Trail and the Friends that care for it, our terrific Public Works employees, Dave Mau, Don Kirk and especially Phil Kiraly. I am grateful the Park Districts works to include more native plants, for Stella and the beautiful Golf course. For Merlo opening in Glencoe. For the lakefront and our beach. How lucky we are to live in such a wonderful community!
I love the holiday light Glencoe has each year and appreciate that they stay up a good wonderful amount of time. I(and several friends) hope that you reconsider how the lights are strung in the Hometown tree. the lights would look better if they went around the tree moving in and out along the branches. Thank you for all the “extra” things you do!
Add affordable, accessible, housing that would give the opportunity to Glencoe’s residents with disabilities and seniors to remain and age in place in the community where they have meaningfully contributed throughout their lives with the supports that they need to be functional and enjoy Glencoe.
I would like to see residents refocus on eliminating single use plastics. An education/awareness program might help, plastic collection at the schools? Restrict use in retail/restaurants. Stop focusing on parking - we don't have a parking problems we have people that don't want to walk a couple blocks. We've beaten the Farmers Market to death - we are too small for this or a pool or a dog park or individual community gardens - Move on.
Please add some receptacles for collecting plastic bags for recycling around town or at least in town.
Teen camps, dog park, family activities
Consider adding stone over the current black iron lattice look for all the new signage in town. The black lattice does not go with the aesthetic of Glencoe. Adding some stone and mortar I think would look really nice and not cost too much.
Please add more teen programming and options. Help keep the kids engaged in our town after 13 years old. Agree with skate park, lounge, movie theater, bowling alley, a pool, a dog park.. more events like the mud run they would like to participate in. There are plenty for tots and school aged kids. More teen job opportunities.
Please focus on the basics of running a local government and stop pushing "values" that are not shared by all.
The village website is very difficult to navigate and really needs a total overhaul!
I wish glencoe had a dog park!!
Rather than have the entire Frank Lloyd Wright building be solely a museum, make some of it an actual, usable space - have a room in the building be for drawing classes - it's close enough to Takiff that could be a park district outpost space for this specific type of class. What an opportunity for kids to grow up making art in and feeling a real connection to (as opposing to simply taking a tour maybe once) a beautiful, famous architect's space.
