Welcome to the Major Taylor Trail Framework Plan, a City of Chicago Dept. of Planning and Development-led initiative focused on activating the Major Taylor Trail and catalyzing equitable development in the area. The Trail, named after celebrated African American cyclist Marshall “Major” Taylor, stretches from 82nd St. to the Little Calumet River. The study area for this Framework Plan zeroes in on the area of the Trail that traverses Beverly, Morgan Park, and West Pullman, from 104th St to 125th St. The plan will bring together multiple neighborhoods, communities, and stakeholders to find a common vision for the future of the Trail and the surrounding area. Over the next few months, the Framework Plan team will collect data, engage in community outreach, and develop a set of recommendations to bring this hidden gem to its full potential.
How can we help our local community and businesses thrive? What types of housing, investments, establishments, and cultural activities would you like to see and experience? Where would you like to see improvements? What changes be made in the surrounding community would enhance the Trail? What would add vibrancy and identity to this stretch of the Major Taylor Trail?
